Personal Care Products Testing Attachments

Adhesive Bandage Seal Strength - Texture Analysis

Cylinder probes - Texture Analysis

Bacward / Forward Extrusion Cells - Texture Analysis

Adhesive Bandage
Peel Strength
This test is very important for the
determination of the comparative
peeling or stripping characteristics
of adhesive bonds.

Conical/Cylinder probes
Can be used to assess hardness of e.g. soap, deodorant.

Back/Forward Extrusion Cells
Can be used to assess
consistency/extrudability of e.g.
cream, pastes.

Tube / Sachet Extrusion Rig

Compression Probe - contact lens -Texture Analysis

Film Support Rig - Texture Analysis

Tube/Sachet Extrusion Rig
Allows manufacturers to measure
the ease of removal and application
of products such as sauces, pastes, creams and gels.

Compression Probes
Allow the hardness assessment
of e.g. contact lenses.

Film Support Rig
This rig allows testing of thin, film-
like products to measure the burst
strength, resilience and
relaxation properties.

Penetration testing - creams - Texture Analysis

Dispenser Actuation Force test -Texture Analysis

Needle penetration - soaps - Texture Analysis

Penetration Tests
Hemispherical probes imitate
a finger.

Actuation Force Testing
allows measurement of the force
required to release hair fixatives
from aerosols, soap/cream
from dispensers.

Needle penetration
Can be used to assess hardness
of soap, deodorant.

Hair Combing Rig - Texture Analysis

Hair Combing Rig
(Registered Design)
Enables the comb to be disengaged
at the end of each combing stroke
for realistic assessment of hair

Application brochure

Any of the texture analyser range can be used for the product tests listed below.

A selection of special attachments and typical measurements which are commonly used in this application area are shown above. However, this does not show the complete range of attachments available for the testing of personal care products. Test procedures include: compression, puncture/penetration, tension, fracture/bending, extrusion, cutting/shearing.

Typical measurements include:

  • Consistency: toothpaste, cream

  • Adhesive Strength: medical bandages, sanitary towels, nappies (see also Adhesives)
  • Hardness: soap, wax, deodorant, contact lenses
  • Foam Stability: shaving foams
  • Friction: shaving foams
  • Actuation Force: soap/cream dispensers, aerosols
  • Sachet/Tube: Content removal force

Application Studies are available for the testing of personal care products using the TA.XT2i, TA.XTplus, TA.XTExpress  or TA.HDplus texture analysers.

In addition, scientific papers have been published which reference the use of the TA.XT2i/TA.XTplus/
TA.HDplus in the testing of personal care products.
